Doug grew up in Wartburg, located within Morgan County, and attended school there. He furthered his education at Roane State Community College, The Savannah College of Art and Design, as well as earning a degree in Anthropology from San Diego State University in 2020. Doug traveled extensively and had a thirst for knowledge. He passed that knowledge onto his students in Italy, where he taught for two summers. Doug was an accomplished artist in many areas including painting, music (specifically piano), and dance. His life was cut short due to cancer in 2021 but he leaves behind a history of promoting a love of teaching and the arts. Education is the gift that lasts a lifetime and this scholarship provides a meaningful way to honor Doug’s memory while carrying his legacy forward to future generations of students. Please consider a gift to help fund this scholarship as the money given in Doug’s memory will be used to provide at least one $1000 scholarship each year to a Roane State student majoring in education, music or art.
